Synergy blends are carefully balanced mixtures of several essential oils. In a good blend, the oils complement each other, so the scent – and the experience – is richer and more rounded than any single oil on its own. In this guide you will learn what synergy means in aromatherapy, the easiest ways to use our blends at home and how to use them safely.
What is a synergy blend?
“Synergy” means that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In aromatherapy, some essential oils work especially well together – for example, fresh tea tree with eucalyptus or lemon. Our specialists combine oils like these into ready-made blends, so you do not have to measure and mix them yourself. All our blends are made from 100% natural, pure essential oils, and each one has its own character and purpose.
What our blends are created for
Each blend is designed around the needs of busy, modern life. Aromatherapy is traditionally used to:
- help you unwind and relax after a busy day
- create a calm, cosy atmosphere at home
- support a sense of balance, comfort and good mood
- make the air in your home smell fresh and clean
- turn everyday routines – a bath, a massage, cleaning – into small rituals of self-care

How essential oils work
Essential oils reach us in two ways – through the sense of smell and through the skin. When we breathe in a scent, it is linked to the part of the brain involved in emotions and memory, which is why aromas can influence how we feel so quickly. During a massage, we experience both at once: the diluted oil is applied to the skin while we breathe in its aroma.
6 easy ways to use synergy blends
1. In a diffuser
A diffuser is the simplest way to fill a room with scent. For a medium-sized room (about 14 m²), add 5–7 drops to the water in your aroma diffuser. No diffuser? Put a few drops on dried flowers, a cotton pad in a drawer or a tissue near a warm radiator.

2. Direct inhalation
Breathe in the scent straight from the bottle or from a tissue – handy when you need a quick moment of calm. For a steam inhalation, add 2–3 drops to a bowl of hot water, lean over it at a distance of 20–30 cm, cover your head with a towel and keep your eyes closed. Cold Comfort is a fresh, clearing blend that many people love in the colder months.
3. On the go
To keep a favourite scent with you, put a drop on a scarf or the collar of your coat. Angel’s Shield was created for exactly this – a protective, comforting aroma to carry through the day. Test on a hidden spot of fabric first.
4. An aromatherapy bath
For an adult bath, use 5–7 drops. Essential oils do not mix with water, so always blend them first with a couple of handfuls of salt, half a cup of full-fat milk or a tablespoon of honey – or use our ready-made bath rituals. The ideal water temperature is 35–38 °C; relax for about 20 minutes.
5. Massage
Mix 7–10 drops of a blend with 30 ml of a carrier oil such as sweet almond, peach kernel, grape seed or olive oil. Angel’s Tenderness is a gentle blend that is lovely for a slow, relaxing temple and neck massage. Store the mixture in a cool, dark place and mix small amounts at a time.
6. Sauna and home cleaning
In the sauna, add a few drops to a bucket of water and sprinkle it on the walls and floor – never pour oils directly onto hot stones. Cosy Time is balanced for this warm ritual. For a fresher home, add a couple of drops of Cleanse & Sparkle to your dusting cloth or the water you mop the floor with – cleaning becomes a much more pleasant, uplifting task.

Safety first
- Never apply essential oils neat to the skin – always dilute them.
- Do a patch test on the inside of your arm before the first use.
- Keep away from the eyes and out of reach of children.
- Do not take essential oils internally.
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a health condition or are choosing oils for a child, ask your doctor first.
- Be careful with pets, especially cats. Do not diffuse in a closed room a pet cannot leave.
- More is not better – follow the recommended number of drops.
Frequently asked questions

How long does a blend keep? Stored tightly closed, upright and away from light and heat, most blends keep their scent for around two years.
Which blend should I start with? Choose by purpose: Cosy Time for relaxing evenings, Cleanse & Sparkle for a fresh home, Cold Comfort for the colder months.
Can I use blends in a humidifier? Only if it is designed for essential oils – many ordinary humidifiers are not.
